Before starting

The key to the perfect application of liquid lipstick begins with hydrated lips. "My lip unguent is on and has been on since before my foundation started," says Hughes. “It is absolutely essential to have lip balm when you sleep if you can remember it. In fact, I have one on my nightstand. But, in the skincare process, start the lip balm from the beginning and when it gets close to the lips, your lips will be perfectly primed technologyford.

The only exception? “If you use a very, very dry matte liquid lipstick, you can leave it a bit of a balm texture. This will make it more comfortable during the day, ”explains Hughes techiesin.

The next step in the Hughes application process is to carefully define the shape of her lips with Makeup For Ever Eye, Lip and Brow Pencil in Universal Earth ($ 18). "I have my pencil and it's freshly sharpened and I'm going to create an 'X' on my Cupid's bow," Hughes said. "So that's the first step of a lip and it frames Cupid's bow. It's probably the most prominent part of someone's mouth and probably the most beautiful, in my opinion technologyies."

Hughes then focuses on her lower lip, etching the lip liner under her lower lip. "Now I'm profitable to make two marks from the cupid's bow to the middle of my upper lip and the corner to find the line I just created," says Hughes. “Look at my little finger, it's my anchor. And then I will make the bottom to connect to this board. Then I will fill it in with a pencil.

Hughes says that pencil first helps in the longevity of any lipstick, be it matte or glossy. She says that with matte lipsticks you often don't need to make a pencil completely underneath, but you can use one on the edge of the lips for shading, contouring, or edging.

Step three: polish the edges of your lips

"I'm actually going to buff the edges of the lip liner that I just drew so it doesn't feel too drawn and almost looks like I've been wearing it for years and it's just my signature color and I never take it off," says Hughes. "I carefully run the brush along the edge where I get a little inconsistency in the pencil to smooth it out."

Step four: start applying lipstick where your lips swell

"The way to start a lip is not to start at the edges of the lip like I did with the pencil," says Hughes. "Start close to where your lips are pursed or where your mouth opens, as it's so much easier to keep refining towards the edge of the lips than to try to get away from the edge of the lips with something like that, something so opaque and shiny." As Hughes applies Revlon Ultra HD Vinyl Lip Polish in Date Night ($ 7), he rejoices in the comfort and smoothness of the product on his lips.

To precisely trace the edges of his lips with the liquid lipstick, Hughes recommends using the back of the lever applicator.
