How to Get Glass Lips With Katie Jane Hughes

Girlish skin has been one of the hottest Korean beauty trends in recent times. The popular K beauty trend refers to skin that looks incredibly smooth, shiny, and reflective (like glass) and the trend has inspired a similar lip look. Glass lips are believed to describe a pout that has a high intensity shine and an almost jelly-like texture. Creating the look of juicy lips is a breeze, requiring only two products (yes, only two!). Come and watch celebrity and editorial makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes explain how to get glass lips.

Step one: use a transparent lip gloss product

To show us how to create glass lips, Hughes begins by applying a vibrant pink lip. "I just place this in the center of the lip, paying attention to the width of the mouth," says Hughes. While you don't have to wear the exact same shade as Hughes, wearing a lipstick from the same color family as your natural lipstick will really help create that reflective, glassy look.

Step two: polish the edges with a brush

Glass lips are supposed to look natural and fuzzy, so once you've applied your color, you'll want to blend it so that the product looks less like lipstick than your natural lips. "I'm going to take a brush and smooth those edges to make it look smudged," says Hughes. "The only way to go crazy with this look is to gradually build up the product and sweep the edges with a brush or finger." Heed Hughes's advice: It's a lot easier to put on more color than take it off if things look too saturated.

Step three: enhance shine with a lip top coat

Maybelline

Remember, superfluous gloss is the key to this style, so you'll definitely want to use a quality lip gloss or lip top coat for this step. Next, Hughes dabs some Maybelline Lip Studio Clear Vinyl Shine Shot Lip Top Coat directly onto a clean brush. “I will use a simple glitter and top it up to give it more shine. It's really about taking it on an editorial level, ”says Hughes. You can use a clear gloss like Hughes, or a gloss the same shade as your lipstick from the first step.

Hughes says that the benefit of using a fluffy brush to apply gloss is that it allows you to put it on your lips without rubbing it too hard.

Step four: apply more pigment

Finally, Hughes applied more Revlon Super Lustrous Glass Shine Lipstick in Fuschia Gleam to his lips, patting it to add more concentrated pigment. She says the resulting look should remind you of a palette. If you like your glass lips to be brighter, you can add more gloss on top. It all depends on your personal preferences. And there you go!
