Years every decade, there are iconic moments of beauty in
film and fashion that go down in history. Famous makeup artist Nick Barose,
whose client list includes Lupita Nyong'o, Tracee Ellis Ross, Gugu Mbatha-Raw
and many more, is often inspired by the red carpet of former Hollywood stars
and models from bygone eras. Recently, in a burst of creativity, he decided to
exercise his makeup art and transform himself into iconic actresses and models
of the past seven decades, from Liza Minelli to Grace Jones.
“During my 40s, I was cleaning and fixing my things and I
found old books,
stage makeup and so
many movies that inspired me to be a makeup artist originally,” Barose told
Byrdie. “With some free time, I decided it would be fun to revisit and recreate
these looks from my pet eras. I also have a fun apparel full of vintage
clothing, accessories, and accessories that I intended to wear for photoshoots
one day, and it breathed new life into them. What I didn't realize was that
this experience forced me to use some of the techniques and tools that I had
forgotten about.
He describes how watching classic movies like Floorshow
with Liza Minelli,
Women with Joan
Crawford, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with Liz Taylor made him feel as if he had
been transported back in time, studying makeup and using traditional tools and
techniques. of those decades. “I found makeup brushes that my old boss Kevyn
Aucoin gave me in the 90s and used them to recreate looks like the ones I did
with friends like Veronica Webb and Marpessa, while watching the Versace and
Azzedine Alaia shows from the 90s and listening to those of George Michael ”.
Too Funky, Freedom! "He says." That inspiration, along with that of
my childhood, gave me seven looks that personify seven of the most dynamic
eras. " Keep scrolling to see Barose's fascinating looks and learn how he
created them.
The look: "This flick is from the '70s, but from the'
30s. I love this version of the '30s look with the thin round eyebrows, cupid's
arched lips, and the big round down eyes. Normally I would chew gum and
Theatrical wax to cover my eyebrows for a look like this, but because of my 40s
I couldn't go to the theatrical store, so this [combo] worked at home.
The look: "It was the epitome of 1940s glamor.
The lips became more and more voluminous, the eyes became
simpler with just a pencil and lashes, and the eyebrows became less round, more
angular. The eyes are quite nude with glitter on the lids and elongated liquid
eyeliner. Also, I used false eyelashes in the outer corners to accentuate the
long shape. "

The look: “As movies have moved from black and white to
color, makeup has moved away from bold red lips because it has become too
harsh. In the 1950s, we began to see softer lips and thick, thick eyebrows.
This was the first iteration of '90s model makeup - they borrowed a lot from
that era and larger-than-life movie star makeup. the nuances add a dangerously
seductive sex appeal to the eyes. "

Inspiration: Donyale Luna
The look: “The moon landing inspired the whole thing,
including space age fashion and beauty. on fun, fun and cool looks Donyale
Luna, Warhol and Dali's first black model and muse, was a huge inspiration to
the beauty industry.
Lower lashes are the must-have beauty of the 60's! The vivid
black and white eyes are so over the top, with the deep black eyeliner
contrasting with the white eyeliner and then tons of false lashes at the bottom
to make the eyes look even more exaggerated, this was the epitome of the style
of the 60s. The lips of the 60s are very pale and almost lighter than your
skin. As the eyes are so dark and dramatic, light, discolored lips work. I did
this custom color with a liquid concealer. "
